Have you ever come across a four-leaf clover while strolling through a garden or across a field?
For many, it sparks a sudden excitement — as if the universe just whispered a small promise of luck.
But why exactly is the four-leaf clover considered so lucky?
And what about the humble three-leaf clover that we pass by every day without much notice?
☘️ The Clover and Its Many Faces
Clover, belonging to the *Trifolium* genus, usually has three leaves. In fact, the name *Trifolium* itself means "three-leaf."
These leaves have long symbolized 'faith, hope, and love' — a perfect trio for anyone walking the winding roads of life.
But every so often, a rare mutation gives rise to a fourth leaflet — and with it, the idea of 'luck'.
The Four Symbols:
- 🍀 One leaf: Faith
- 🍀 Two leaves: Hope
- 🍀 Three leaves: Love
- 🍀 Four leaves: Luck
🌱 Already Lucky with Three
What if we were to pause and appreciate the everyday clovers — the ones with just three leaves?
They already offer us three of life’s most beautiful gifts. Isn’t that lucky enough?
🌼 A Garden Encounter
I once spotted a cluster of clovers growing wild along the edge of our garden path.
I knelt down and ran my fingers through the soft greenery, hoping for a fourth leaf — and instead found peace.
Luck, I realized, isn't something we find.
It’s something we notice.
A Note from My Garden
This reflection was inspired by a quiet morning in my small garden on Madeira Island, Portugal.
Here, life unfolds slowly — with leaves, sunlight, and stories blooming side by side.
